$3000 price limit. Preferably rwd. I’m almost certain there’s nothing with an automatic that I’d want for $3000... So, manual too. NO CONVERTIBLES. Being able to hold more than two people would be nice. Running is a plus, as is good bodywork, but exceptions could be made. I want to learn how to do more complex mechanical work, without potentially leaving my Miata undriveable for weeks at a time. I’m thinking engine swap. Ideas?

My truck! Canadian pesos make it cheap!

Automatic though, but swappable. All part of the project right? Lol

Toyota corolla all-trac with a blown headgasket. It’s 1250 - either repair the engine or swap in something crazier. Your call.

Oh man. I forgot about older lexus’. Adding that to the list.

The only Mercedes I want is either the most optioned-out current s-class available or an Evo. Both of which are slightly above 3k unfortunately... I have considered trying to build my own Evo but I don’t know the Mercedes lineup from back then well enough to even know which model to start with

$3000, RWD, manual, 4 seats? E36.

I can’t think of a better car to enjoy and learn to wrench on at that price point. I loved learning on and driving mine and still miss it to this day.

Bonus points because my dumbass friend totalled a G35 (dui, plus his first rwd car) and would be PISSED if I got one before he got his license back.

I’m saving this. You get the gold star. I could easily get a junkyard LS motor and still stay under 3k...

Land yachts aren’t really my style. Unless it’s brand new and equipped with cooling, massage seats. The E36 (or 46) is looking like a top contender.

What are Jukes running these days? I don’t want one now, but some day I could see myself with one

Kinja'd!!! Logansteno: Bought a VW? > AestheticsInMotion

About $3k is the going rate for a clean non-M E36, give or take depending on age/mileage/engine. Or at least it was when I bought my old one 2 years ago. Of course, rather than a clean non-M, I bought a beat M for the same price. Don’t do that.

That one is priced on the low end for how nice it is and the engine/trans combo. Probably an older person who sees it as just a 20 year old car.

It’s got sport seats, which means it possibly has an LSD, and m-sport suspension. Things to look out for include the VANOS unit, and the cooling system because BMW. I’m not super E36-literate, but I’ve driven a 328is and loved it.

You could pick an early one up for $10k right now, but make sure its has the recalls fixed. 2011 , 2012 , 2013

The preface lift (2011-2014) has the V1 engine. It’s easier to mod, but not as reliable. The face lift has the V2 engine (except the NISMO RS, still uses the V1 engine). It’s is more reliable, but more difficult to mod. I don’t want to take you too deep down the Juke rabbit hole.

All the more reason they should get it! 1250$ for an otherwise clean starter for a project? I’d pay the asking price and maybe bribe them with some beer to make sure I got it! Worst case scenario is you rebuild the motor a bit with new gaskets and a general refresh for a grand or so. But if you want to get a bit crazy, you can. And body and interior are begging for a well sorted power train and at 1250, you can’t say no.

I had an 81 D150 short wheel base, 225/6 with the 4 speed manual and I loved that truck. Mine wasn’t too rusty at all until my dad drove it every winter for 3 years in the salt. I’ve been pining after another one since.
